Bad Currency

BAD CURRENCY

DAVID SOLER: electric guitar

LYNN CASSIERS: voice & electronics

MANOLO CABRAS: electric bass

ORIOL ROCA: drums

Bad Currency is a collaborative band that includes some of the finest European contemporary jazz musicians living in Brussels and Barcelona, and behind this reunion there’s Spanish guitarist and producer David Soler, who long before the band existed, imagined such a combination of musical personalities.

On 2012 Soler was invited by the Festival de Jazz de Vic (Spain) to collaborate with Norwegian musicians Jan Bang and Erik Honoré –PUNKT– featuring Sidsel Endresen. He used that opportunity to finally put the band together, and invited Spanish drummer Oriol Roca, Italian bass player Manolo Cabras and Belgian piano & keyboard player Jozef Dumoulin, who was later replaced by Belgian Lynn Cassiers on voice & electronics.

Bad Currency is a mixture of texture-focused music, electronic soundscapes, pure melodic parts, dark lyrics, organic grooves, strong interplay, raw guitars, improvisation, allowing a very natural coexistence between the acoustic and the processed sound. It’s some sort of timeless music, in which various moments of the 20th century music melt into a whole.

A debut album is ready to be released on 2017.

PAOLO ANGELI & ORIOL ROCA

PAOLO ANGELI & ORIOL ROCA

Paolo Angeli and Oriol Roca started playing together almost ten years ago with the experimental trio Piccola Orchestra Gagarin. Through these years they have built a complicity that allows them to go anywhere they like, creating a palette of super-saturated colors and unbelievably varied textures.

The musical universe coming out from Angeli’s uniquely prepared Sardinian guitar make him one of the most creative musicians in our days. Collaborator of Fred Frith, Evan Parker or Hamid Drake, Angeli melts so naturally with Roca’s melodic, complex and subtly surprising approach to drums and percussion.

Each concert is a non planned journey in which destination is not important, the path is what matters to them. Their music is essentially a celebration of freedom.

IAGO AGUADO QUARTET

IAGO AGUADO QUARTET

Iago Aguado Quartet is the result of an introspective creative process drawing on emotions and desires. The result is a highly intimate project of which sensitivity, esteem, and sincerity are the main features.

The eleven original compositions found on his début album Festina Lente feature different landscapes full of unique textures, colors, and atmospheres. Together they form a sound scape made up of a relaxed dialogue full of subtle detail.

David Mengual, David Soler and Oriol Roca are the perfect musicians to collaborate here, providing cohesion, complicity, and comprehension. They bring an intimate feel to the project, thanks to each of their great subtlety and musicality.

IAGO AGUADO: guitar, compositions
DAVID SOLER: pedal steel
ORIOL ROCA: drums
